(More customer reviews)Kids love candy. You've got to admit it. Even YOU love candy. It's sweet, smooth, and it tastes good all the way down. What if you had a bag of assorted candy? What if it had chocolate, licorice, caramel, peanut clusters, and peppermint sticks? If it weren't for the nutritional deficiency in candy, you would more than likely eat it all of the time!
So would my cat! More likely akin to a bag of salty Trail Mix than a bag of candy, this Meow Mix Wholesome Goodness is very similar in description.
When I first purchased it I was curious to see if this would help my cat lose some extra weight (After all, it has natural ingredients! Natural is good, right?). When I brought it home to my hungry cat, she dove right into the dish when I poured it. She scarfed it down faster than I've seen her eat anything (even yogurt or tuna). I thought "Wow!, this has got to be some good stuff."
So a couple days later I notice her feeder is empty and she's crying and yelling at me for more food. "Alright, alright...hold on", I said and I poured some more nuggets into the dish. Once again she dove in, this time barely chewing the bits before she swallowed them. "Slow down," I said, and pulled her away from the dish. I set her back down and observed again. She was NUTS about this stuff.
I didn't think anything about it until the food kept depleting faster and faster. I found that I had to refill her auto-feeder once every 2-3 days; which is not generally normal for a 3-year-old spayed female. I wondered where she put all of that food, and sure enough she was starting to show some serious weight gain. I let her finish through the bag and this time I purchased some Purina Naturals which hopefully will be a little better (the ingredients lean more to the meat and protein side versus corn meal and grain with the Meow Mix).
I've been told that Meow Mix is like Cheetos and Doritos for the feline race. I'd actually go a bit further and call it "Trail Mix", because it looks healthy, but really has a lot of sodium (aka corn meal and by-products) and fat. Shying away from this kind or any kind of Meow Mix would be a wise decision. My cat seemed to have gotten "hooked" on the Meow Mix, much like a drug, because she barely touches the Purina I feed her now.
If I can get some decent food in her, maybe she'll come down from that euphoria of kitty junk food and begin a healthy diet. I hope this Purina is a nice choice. God willing, I'll post a review on that once she gets experienced with it enough.
Blessings!
