I just used this at a friend's house to make apple pie. This clamps onto the counter or table. You spear the apple (or whatever you are slicing) through the core with the sharp knife-ish things then you start turning the handle. It slices the peel into a long one piece spiral, and then cores it. The apple itself is then like a slinkie. Cutting it in half makes perfect thin half-moon slices. You remove the core from the end of the slicer, then start over. The handle is easy to turn, it doesn't really take any muscle. What would've taken 20 or more minutes to slice and core enough apples for 2 big pies took literally less than 5 minutes and gave us perfect slices. I'm about to buy one right now! Obviously, it's good for much more than apples, that's just what I used to explain it.
